Rambler 04:50
Rambler I was born in Talbot County Lost my mother in ‘25 I taught myself to read and write Between trying to stay alive Board that train in 1838 All dressed up as a sailor man By the time I crossed the river New York City was the plan I guess I’ll keep on runnin’ I’ve been runnin’ all my life – I’m a rambler It was just after Harper’s Ferry I packed my bag and headed north For the fear I might be labeled As a co-conspirator Chorus It was almost 1900 I went down at Cedar Hill Yea they put me through my paces But they could never break my will Chorus
2.
With These Hands When you wake in the morning Does it matter what you’ve just done When he says its forever Will he fade like the morning sun Chorus: With these hands I’ll meet you With these hands I’ll set you free With these hands I’ll take you Places you never thought you’d be The cold hard road pounds before me Harder without you by my side And I fight to remember The times we had but they’ve all gone by Chorus When the evening is over There’s one light that never dies Powered by my passion You’ll see it deep from within my eyes Chorus
3.
Just another day When you’re waiting for your ship to come in You might find life stays in the distance When you live your life on the edge You get to the end but there’s nothing left Chorus: I hope she loves me Just another day Let’s dip our toes in the stream (of consciousness) And let our thoughts carry us away Follow the flow out to the ocean And this big world will find us once again Chorus Carry the hope of the world on my shoulders Hope that springs eternal from the morning sun And each day creates a burning That later in the evening turns to yearning Chorus
4.
Don’t Come ‘Round Here Anymore You’re saying what you’re saying But I don’t think you remember my name I’m the king of the castle And that ain’t never gonna change I hear you knockin’ But it’s time for you to go away Turn out the lights and lock the door And don’t come ‘round here anymore Not a beggar or a borrower Laughing at the claims you make Every day is brighter cause I’ve got a woman makes my knees go shake You keep on believing If that’s what you think it takes Chorus Tell ‘em all about it Tell ‘em what you’re gonna do Tell ‘em all the big decisions And everything she does for you But when the day is over And your crazy dreams have not come true
5.
I’ll Be Leaving Now About those things that I’ve been saying to you I wish I could take them back All I’ve ever known was to speak my mind Sometimes I run right off the track I’ve been trying to make your sweet company I’ve been trying to make it right All I’ve ever wanted was to be with you Don’t think I’ll make it through the night Chorus: I’m a man, sometimes my intentions come out wrong I’m a man, please forgive me if I come on too strong Baby I think I’ll be leaving now You want more from me, so much more from me But what you want baby I don’t have You can’t live your life on my promises You’ll always be looking back Chorus Maybe one fine day, I’ll think of all the right things to say And go rushing at your door But until that time I’ll think about you when I’m drunk on wine And pulling pictures from the drawer Chorus
6.
Just Don't Care Anymore You say you'll love me until the end of time But where were you when I was down You say don't leave me that you'll lose your mind but I just don't care anymore When we were younger I was such a fool I used to let you have your way I'm tired of playing the game by your rules & I just don't care anymore No I just don't care anymore Visions of me are dancin' in your head but it don't matter what you see Cause I'm done and gone away instead & I just don't care anymore It seems that we've been fighting secret wars we're doing battle everyday I don't remember what we're fighting for & I just don't care anymore Chorus I gave you flowers and a piece of my heart but that was many years ago I used to treat you like a piece of art but I just don't care anymore I'd rather sit here drinking by myself then to subject myself to you you're like a book I put back on the shelf & I just don't care anymore Chorus I'll think about you when you're dead and gone & all those things you said to me But by then I will be movin' on & I just don't care anymore
7.
How You Really Feel I want a big house I want a new car But I don’t want to strain myself or work too hard I want to get out I want to go far Even if it means I might be a star Too much of a good thing is never enough for me I’ll take a little bit more If you really think you can get too much of me Like you did before Let me show you how you really feel If you open your eyes You’ll see it just like me Every single thing I’m telling you will come to be Cause I ain’t never been wrong My timing’s always right If you tell me different there’s gonna be a fight Chorus Let’s get one thing straight I’m the fortunate one I’m gonna take my share before anyone As a matter of fact If it crosses my mind I might just take what’s yours before I’m done Chorus
8.
Holding On 06:02
Holding On Just over the bridge and a little further That’s where you’ll find me, down by the river All broken down, doing the best with what’s been left behind All that she wanted from me Was just about everything And now all I can do is think about the diamonds in that ring I gave to her, doing the best with what she left behind Chorus: What I’m finding, is that I’ve lost, so much more than I thought I had And if I could just let her go, but I can’t let her go…I keep holding on in the night I thought salvation was just around the corner, that’s where I found her with another lover I took a breath and I found out I’d been left behind The love she gave to me was just a good disguise for what it really was all just a pack of lies She took my breath and took the best pieces of my mind Chorus When the sun comes up over the river I’m going to try to get myself together And make amends with all the demons in my mind But if I find myself right back here again with all the memories & ghosts she gave me when We first met, before I found out that I was blind Chorus
9.
Out of Time 05:14
Out of Time It was late yesterday evening When the circus came to town I tried hard to let it pass me by But it took me down As I struggle to recover And get back up on my feet Everything just seems like trouble Like I’ve been beat Chorus: Everything keeps changing The more I change the more I fall behind One thing never changes We all run out of time Hold me close enough to whisper All those sweet things in my ear Tell me all the things that I Want to hear Chorus So I take my shot of whiskey And I sit back in my chair And with all my friends around me Thinking its not fair Chorus
10.
Justified 04:37
Justified Can you tell me brother weary Why you’re so far from your home And just why you had to bury All the children that you’ve known Chorus: How many more days must you suffer How many more will have to die Before those who have the power Will feel justified Brother brother why do they say Never again will this come to pass While they fail to stop the killing And make the kind of peace that lasts Chorus Tell me brother when will this end When will we make the sacrifice Or is man just too wicked Just a sheep in a wolf’s disguise Chorus

about

Remember how Tom Petty’s seminal ‘Damn the Torpedoes’ album instantly grabbed you with its classic rock salvo, “Refugee”? Well, it’s no exaggeration to compare that with Edgehill Avenue’s CD-opener (& title-track), “Rambler”, an Hammond organ-rich, Neil Young-meets-Bottle Rockets gem that serves as an excellent introduction to a disc of riveting roots rock of the 1st order. Hailing from Louisville, KY, the 5-member Edgehill Avenue are much at home with Allman Brothers-style Southern Rock (“Don’t Come Around Here Anymore”, “How You Really Feel”), but also display a more-than-able touch with country-rock balladry (“I’ll Be Leaving Now”, “Out of Time”). Elsewhere, “With These Hands” is reminiscent of R.E.M.’s “Driver 8”, & “Just Don’t Care Anymore”, with its honky tonk piano backing, feels like Blue Rodeo at their rocking best. Regardless of style, though, ‘Rambler’ is nothing less than a seamless & compelling mix of well-crafted & equally well-played (think Petty’s Heartbreakers or the E Street Band ensembles as models) Americana-inspired classic rock.
